My Daughter’s Lemonade Stand

My kid suddenly proposed selling homemade lemonade on the street. I was a little reluctant, but we went for it.

She made $24 in one hour.

A few lessons I learned:

Directly asking people works much better. Walking up to each person and asking if they’d like some lemonade was far more effective than standing behind the stand and waiting.

Location matters. The entrance to the park was much better than a quiet corner inside it.

You don’t need everything to be perfect. We thought about buying nicer cups and finding a table to make the stand look more professional. In the end, we didn’t wait. It didn’t matter as much as we thought.

Hot weather helps. Lemonade is much easier to sell when people are hot and thirsty.

The sign matters. She wrote “Lemonade. $3 with coconut sugar. $2 without coconut sugar.” on a sheet of paper in yellow pencil. It could have been bigger and bolder.

The truth is, I was pretty shy about approaching strangers.

My kid was much braver than I was at making the pitch.
