Part Six
The Mirror
On fear, judgment, and the things running a business showed me about myself.
Entrepreneurship Is a Mirror
Running your own business is like looking into a mirror. It reflects your deepest fears, attachments, insecurities, and strengths.
In a corporate job, a mature system hides and protects a lot of things for you. As long as you follow the processes already in place, you’re fine.
But entrepreneurship puts you face to face with your customers and your numbers. When something goes wrong, you suddenly realize there’s no one else to complain about or blame. You have to take full ownership.
My wife once listed the issues she’d seen in me for a long time: poor time management, trouble prioritizing, low tolerance for stress, not knowing how to rest, not having a system.
A full-time job had been like an incubator. Its structure and comfort had hidden those problems from me.
Entrepreneurship threw me into the ocean. It exposed those problems and amplified them ten times.
The first year was very tough. It was also inevitable. The struggles were part of real growth.
