Already Whole

The Life I Once Dreamed Of

Years ago, I had a wild dream.

One day, I would have the freedom to live in another country with my wife and kids for a few months. I’d work a few hours before sunrise, we’d learn the local language together in the mornings, and we’d spend the rest of the day exploring.

That dream came true.

One night during that trip, I was watching a local performance with my family, and I was suddenly overwhelmed with happiness.

It wasn’t just the simple, heartfelt music and dancing, or my little one sitting on my lap with my family beside me. It wasn’t just the slow, full day we’d had, with good food, massages, and wandering through the local market.

More than anything, I realized I was living the life I had once dreamed of.

Wasn’t this what I had worked so hard for, all those years?

There are still so many things I want to do, and so many things I know I could do better. I still feel anxious sometimes. I still get lost. There are still problems I haven’t solved.

But none of that stopped me from feeling, in that single moment, a real sense of freedom and happiness.

That freedom and happiness don’t come from my income, my calendar, or other people’s eyes.

They come from within.

They were there all along.
