Changing One Line
A small but monumental step in my career change came the day I changed my LinkedIn headline from “Architect” to “Product Designer.”
I was so self-conscious about it. I worried about what my employer would think. I worried my connections would find it strange, since almost all of them were architects.
But at some point, I changed it anyway. My desire for a new identity finally outweighed my fear of being judged.
And right after that, I started to see myself, seriously, as a product designer.
I went to events and introduced myself as a product designer. I started writing posts to share what I was learning as a product designer.
Technically, I wasn’t one yet.
Until one day, I landed the job and became one.
