Two Hundred Messages
One Wednesday night, I sent a “sales message” to more than two hundred people I know.
Yes, I messaged every one of them individually.
Six months earlier, this would never have been something I’d do. Too cringey. It felt like spam.
Then I started thinking about it, and I was afraid even to think about it. What would people think of me? So I procrastinated for more than three months.
But eventually, I did it. And it actually brought in some clients.
I was proud of myself that week. The symbolic meaning of doing something I feared mattered far more than the result.
Looking back, I realized that stepping out of your comfort zone isn’t one huge leap where you overcome all your fear at once.
Six months before, I’d overcome my fear by talking about my new business with a close circle of people.
Three weeks before, I’d overcome another layer by writing about it publicly to a much larger circle.
Then I overcame another layer by sending those two hundred messages in a single day.
Little by little, I stepped further outside my original comfort zone and did things I never thought I would.
